The IoT team spans the gap between Information Technology (IT) and Operations Technology (OT) roles in the manufacturing environment – extracting, interpreting, displaying, storing, and analyzing process telemetry and shop floor data streams. These team members are more knowledgeable of physical processes and equipment than the typical factory IT support role, but also possesses skills that are rare to manufacturing engineers including app development, networking knowledge, and information security best practices. The role of the OT Project Engineer, specifically, is to lead expansion and rollouts of known solutions developed by the IoT team for broader use by the Andersen enterprise
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leverage manufacturing domain expertise to understand and anticipate business needs to drive projects and key strategic software initiatives.
- Evaluate feedback from key contacts in your professional network and assess the physical factory environment (e.g. machine capabilities, critical quality or performance metrics, and material flow) to gather requirements for solution enhancements.
- Lead capital and site projects to implement or expand upon known solutions to cover common business needs.
- Gather requirements, build business cases, manage stakeholders, request funding, coordinate with the IoT team to deliver solutions, measure the outcome, and validate results.
- Reflect on implementation and provide feedback to the IoT team developers to optimize solutions.
- Extract, clean, and validate data from the shop floor via knowledge of sensors, existing network infrastructure, standard playbook of hardware.
- Continuous improvement, research, and development on underlying IoT technology stack using edge, cloud, and hybrid methodologies to meet business needs and reflect industry trends.
- Draft reports using Power BI or Excel to allow internal customers to access the data and drive business decisions.
DIRECTION OF OTHERS:
- Regularly coach less experienced team members on technology or internal best practices and conduct peer code or process reviews.
- Has no direct reports or staff responsibilities
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in any of Computer Science, Software Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Supply Chain.
- Master’s degree in Computer Science preferred.
- Minimum 3-year experience in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated project outputs.
- Possesses strong project leadership skills including communication, network building, and change management.
- Good understanding and experience with cloud based database technologies including SQL, GraphQL, and BLOB storage.
- Familiar with a variety of application development methodologies including Agile and Scrum.
- Familiar with reporting tools such as Power BI or Grafana.
- Familiar with modern Internet of Things data transmission protocols including MQTT and HTTP.
- Familiar with Debian based Linux operating systems.
- Familiar with networking and security best practices including firewalls, DNS, virtual IPs, and reverse proxies.
COMPENSATION:
Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to work experience, education, geographic location, certifications, etc. Your recruiter can share more about the specific compensation package for your preferred role during the hiring process.
Successful candidates in this role are expected to earn between $88,235 - $136,765 annually.
