The Principal Product Owner will be at the forefront of utilizing Agile Product Development Frameworks to drive software development and IT operations/infrastructure efforts that tie into new revenue-generation, efficiency, or cost-saving initiatives and accomplish the goals of the Enterprise. This role will balance risk-taking and innovation when challenging product teams to find new and better solutions. They will work to understand market impacts and consumer preferences to drive better understanding of customer needs, in order to design and deliver software that accomplishes organizational goals in lockstep with company go-to-market strategy. This role will engage with the highest levels of leadership, including external partners, vendors, and strategic alliances with other organizations.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work closely with Business and IT Leadership to understand strategic decisions and apply to Product Vision. Engage with IT Leadership in aligning strategy to Product Backlogs as well as in escalating questions upwards and outwards.
- Act as the liaison between multiple product teams and business stakeholders on products, collaborating closely with both groups to ensure there is a clear understanding of what features are needed in the product/application.
- Develop Roadmap together with Stakeholders and multiple Product Owners: articulate longer-term Product Vision, Strategy, & Release Roadmap. Understand and balance cross-team impacts and technical currency/debt vs feature development.
- Work with w/Business Partners to define and prioritize the Product Backlog at a Value Stream, Solution, Feature, and Epic level to streamline the execution of company and program priorities. When needed, ensure clearly-articulated PBIs & User Stories following best practice conventions (Who, What, Why) that help Scrum Teams better understand the functionality they need to deliver. Work w/Scrum Developer team as needed to clarify functional requirements.
- Engage in communication as part of Scaled Agile setting across Product teams (for example, Meta Scrum, Scrum of Scrums) to coordinate team roadmap commitments/progress, uncover dependencies, shared services, and system architecture considerations. Take part in Quarterly Product Roadmap/Increment/Release Planning Processes: these may involve other Product Owners, Enterprise/System Architects, Release Train Engineers (aka Agile Program Managers), Scrum Masters, Agile Team-members (Developers, Business Analysts), and may include IT Leadership and People Managers.
- Utilize an understanding of market impacts and consumer preferences around key company initiatives as well as product development techniques to drive a better understanding of user or customer needs to design and deliver software products that accomplish organizational goals in lockstep with the company's go-to-market strategy. Engage with and lead product or special project teams spanning resources and products from software, hardware, Marketing, Sales, Finance, and other functional areas.
- Stakeholder communication, status reports, including budgeting (optional). Must have a strong understanding of product/project financials and be able to manage and effectively communicate to stakeholders in terms of ROI, value to the organization, etc.
- Model a Continuous Improvement mindset and actively engage in Communities of Practice forums and communication (via multiple channels) to foster organizational maturity and better Agile understanding, best practices amongst fellow Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Scrum Team-members, as well as Agile Program Managers, People Managers, IT Leadership, and Business stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Bachelor's degree (Management Information Systems, Business Administration preferred).
- Scrum Certification Preferred: Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO).
- Lean, Six Sigma, TQM, and other Certifications Welcome.
- A minimum of 9 years’ experience with Information Technology/Software Development/Operations/Infrastructure efforts with progressive responsibility.
- A minimum of 7 years' experience working in an agile environment (e.g. user stories, iterative development, etc.).
- Tools: Working experience with utilizing and configuring JIRA and other Agile Planning Tools (CA Agile Rally, VersionOne, etc.).
- Display past ability to facilitate communication between business and technical teams.
COMPENSATION
Pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to work experience, education, geographic location, certifications, etc. Your recruiter can share more about the specific compensation package for your preferred role during the hiring process. Successful candidates in this role are expected to earn $108,941 per year to $168,859 per year.
