Andersen is looking for an Assistant General Counsel, Employment Law, who will serve as an advisor and counselor to Human Resources and business managers on employment law issues. We are seeking to hire someone who can provide expert, principled, pragmatic, solution-focused and commercially relevant employment law advice. The candidate must be an enterprise-level thinker with a flexible, collaborative, future-oriented mind set who makes informed decisions and legal risk assessments in the best interests of the enterprise in the face of ambiguity. This individual must have strong interpersonal skills and be an excellent verbal and written communicator to employees at all levels of the company. This person must be a good listener, comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, with the ability to identify and explain, and the courage to influence and persuade to support the enterprise’s objectives. As a key member of the Legal Department team, support, manage and provide legal advice regarding the company’s labor and employment strategies, compliance and employment practices.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- This position dual reports to the company’s Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer as well as the Chief Human Resources Officer and may supervise a team of attorneys, paralegals, administrative assistants and/or clerks.
- Partnering with Human Resources and cross functional teams throughout the business, develop and oversee the company’s labor and employment strategies, with primary responsibly for counseling on: long-term and day to day employment related legal affairs, supporting HR and Security of investigations ensuring that the company’s labor and employment policies and procedures provide clear guidance to HR in implementing such policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with labor and employment regulatory matters, and developing and implementing appropriate labor and employment related training..
- Partnering with Human Resources, develop and continuously refine the enterprise HR strategy towards a dedicated and expanded Employee Relations and HR Compliance center of excellence that provides policy uniformity, guidance, and support for HR partners, business leaders, and employees.
- Strategically guide the HR function by providing legal advice to advance the HR compliance discipline by providing direction to a team of compliance professionals overseeing compliance processes and training across the enterprise. Actively manage and supervise outside counsel and budgets in connection with the above-described matters.
- Collaborate with HR and leadership teams to shape and support the development and deployment of Andersen’s business strategy, ensuring alignment with employment laws and best practices.
- Actively participate with the Legal Department and the overall business in anticipating, identifying, assessing, and managing potential legal risks.
- Develop, manage and report appropriate metrics.
- Perform related duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Juris doctor degree from an accredited law school of recognized standing; current license to practice law in Minnesota; as well as admissions to the appropriate federal and state bar(s).
- 8 or more years of broad-based experience as a practicing attorney in a corporate or law firm environment (preferably both).
- Strong working knowledge of, and experience with, all substantive areas of law described within the attorney’s job responsibilities and duties.
- Significant prior trial experience or prior experience supervising outside trial counsel (preferably both).
- Ability to judge character, distinguish relevant facts, assimilate and analyze facts, and apply legal principles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work with others in a team environment at all levels within the company.
- Ability to manage confidential information and material with the highest degree of professional responsibility.
- Ability to exercise independent and discretionary judgment.
- Strong planning, organizational and project management skills.
- Proficient in negotiation.
- Ability to resolve complex legal issues, including issues involving modestly complicated financial and operational data.
Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to work experience, education, geographic location, certifications, etc. Your recruiter can share more about the specific compensation package for your preferred role during the hiring process. Successful candidates in this role are expected to earn $162,230 - $259,570.
