Andersen Corporation is seeking a self-motivated Materials Technician to support an energetic group of Research, Development & Innovation (RD&I) Engineers that lead projects focused in the areas of:
- Material development in a variety of subjects like thermoplastics, thermosets, sealants, metals, glass, coatings, and adhesives
- Corner welding and joining technologies
- Packaging material and construction
- Product life prediction testing
- Product development and design
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Provides technical support for assigned work areas (determines test procedures to follow; reports clear and accurate test results; participates in continuous improvement activities)
- Works with engineers to prepare and/or evaluate various materials using shop (miter saw, table saw), laboratory (caliper, balance) and/or precision test (Instron, FTIR) equipment, so informed decisions can be made on new and existing product development and quality initiatives
- Prepares and maintains detailed documentation of test methods and test data with direction
- Works independently to manage workload and changes in priorities to complete task responsibilities on time to meet project deadlines
- Creates basic prototypes and fixtures to support assigned work areas
- Some travel may be required (5% of time), primary location Bayport, MN
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
MUST HAVE QUALIFICATIONS
- 2-year technical/associates degree or equivalent experience.
- General knowledge and use of computers and basic software (i.e. Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Strong interest and basic aptitude to work in a technical or scientific field (willingness to learn and operate new software and equipment)
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and be a team member
- Ability to work flexible hours to support testing assignments and deadlines
NICE-TO-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS
- 1-3 years of applicable experience in material characterization/testing
- Experience with relevant precision test equipment (MTS/Instron, FTIR, XRF, Microscopy, DMA and/or Rheology Testing)
- Able to operate shop equipment (miter saw, tables saws, and drills) and/or power industrial trucks (forklift, pallet jack, etc.)
- Strong math, science, mechanical, and experimental skills
- Basic knowledge of windows and doors products and/or materials
Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to work experience, education, geographic location, certifications, etc. Your recruiter can share more about the specific compensation package for your preferred role during the hiring process.
Successful candidates in this role are expected to earn $27.25 - $39.55.
