SUMMARY 

This position is responsible for metals and metal coatings and their application processes used within the Andersen product portfolio. By working closely with our design and operation partners, this role will lead material and process development projects in the metal components, hardware, equipment, and tooling technical competency areas. Projects could involve metal and metal coatings technology/process development or metals/hardware/tooling technology to be implemented at Andersen’s many manufacturing sites. Objectives will include cost, quality, reliability, and/or performance enhancements of product solutions. 

 (Travel 5-15%) 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead metal components, hardware, and tooling technology projects and make recommendations to stakeholders and technical leaders as to viability of solutions to meet business needs

Test and validate new materials in production

Work closely with suppliers to influence development of novel solutions

Perform failure analysis on parts and make recommendations to prevent recurrence 

Select materials and coatings to improve performance and reliability of equipment and tooling

Design, analyze, and report on experimental studies and / or new metal and coating technologies

Consult with cross-functional and other materials teams (sealants, adhesives, glass, wood, composites)

Stay abreast of industry technology developments and explore their use in Andersen products 

Provide technical support for metals, metal coatings, hardware, and tooling questions, technical training, and/or technical specification development  

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

MUST HAVE QUALIFICATIONS 

BS Materials Science/Metallurgy/Chemical Engineering or similar engineering discipline

Experience with testing and analysis of materials: sample preparation, microscopy, data analysis

Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Project management experience and experience working with collaborative, cross-functional teams

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to build relationships and make presentations to all levels of the organization 

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) as well as statistical software (Minitab, JMP, etc.)


NICE-TO-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS

3+ years engineering or technical experience working on metals or coating processes, development, and/or testing 

Working knowledge of metals, coatings, or hardware and some experience with adhesives, sealants

Strong working knowledge of product development principles

Experience in the fenestration or related industry 

Strong analytical skills and materials analysis experience


Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to work experience, education, geographic location, certifications, etc. Your recruiter can share more about the specific compensation package for your preferred role during the hiring process. Successful candidates in this role are expected to earn $77,255 - $119,745.

In 2024 Andersen has set a profit-sharing target of $4,000 per eligible employee, prorated as appropriate. Profit sharing will be paid out in quarterly installments to provide eligible employees with payments throughout the year, with payment amounts tied to quarterly operating profit performance.
